There are country walks in all directions leaving The Lily Pad.
Most popular is heading up the green lane to Yarwell then following the River Nene back towards Nassington. This takes approximately 2 hours to walk completely and get back to the Lily Pad – although you do pass two excellent pub along the way so there are plenty of opportunities for a breather!
Alternatively – leaving the Lily Pad – you can also head to Apethorpe, Wansford, Woodnewton or Elton. All of these routes can be accessed on footpaths with all of the routes presenting accessible and stunning views of the local countryside. While we have some simple maps available to follow the mapping app on your mobile phone will also help you find your way around.
A little further afield – Burghley Park, Stamford has some wonderful walking routes on offer throughout the park with spectacular views of Burghley House to boot – home of the annual Burghley horse trials (A personal favourite event of the team here!).
Barnwell Country Park is another destination which will require the car to get to – but with its lakes and coffee shop is a very popular choice with families of all ages. From here you can also then pop into Oundle, which is full of independent shops and some great coffee shops and The Talbot Hotel (rumoured to be haunted by the ghost of Mary Queen of Scots!).
This county really is a little unknown gem with so many places to visit. Northamptonshire is packed with stunning stone villages all worth exploring on foot or by car.
